With the increased impact from new technologies such as artificial intelligence, big data, and internet of things, it has been more and more important to ensure close integration between industry, academia and research institutes, so as to make the most of the new technologies and benefit everyone in the industry. To achieve this goal, the government and private enterprises are both taking comprehensive measures to promote the close integration between industry, academia and research institutes.
First of all, the government have launched innovation projects to promote close collaboration between industry, academia and research institutes. One of the most significant projects is the “863 Program” launched in 1986 by the Ministry of Science and Technology. Through this program, the government have selected hundreds of large-scale scientific and technological projects to invest in, and the investment in each project can reach millions of RMB. Moreover, Chinese government also provides a variety of tax incentives, subsidies and other policies for enterprises and research institutes to carry out cooperation projects.
Also, private enterprises have made a great effort to promote the close integration between industry, academia and research institutes by setting up research and development centers, strengthening personnel exchanges and technology communication, fostering common research projects, and cooperating with universities and research institutes in talent cultivation. Private enterprises have set up their own research and development centers, and made their research results available for their partners. For example, Huawei established the Huawei Research Institute in 1991, and the research institute carried out development and research on the 5G network and Artificial Intelligence (AI). With the advances of the technology and the cooperation among the different partners, Huawei successfully launched the 5G network earlier this year.
It could be seen that the implementation of government policies and the initiatives of private enterprises have yielded fruitful results in promoting the close integration between industry, academia and research institutes. In order to fully explore the potential of new technologies and benefit everyone, we should further strengthen the communication and cooperation between industry, academia and research institutes.
